External Description:

Summary: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide obstetrical and gynecological care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Able to diagnose patient conditions and provide appropriate treatment recommendations. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of fetal growth and development. Ability to identify and categorize each patient’s age-specific grouping of needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Perform comprehensive physical examination, and compile patient medical data including health history and results of physical examination.

· Orders or performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, and basic wound care.

· Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.

· Collaborates with perinatology and Midwives in the management of patients in labor.

·Develops and implements patient management plans, follows hospitalized patients as appropriate, records progress notes, and assists in the provision of continuity of care.

· Gain competence in Electronic Medical Record systems.

· Billing submission at the time of office visit.

· Part-Time Status equates to three, 24-hour call shifts per month.

· For Part Time Candidates seeking clinical office hours – additional 8-10 hours per week can be available in an affiliate ob-gyn health center.

· Location St. Vincent Medical Center, Bridgeport, CT, Fairfield Region, Hartford Health Care


  • Experience in OB/GYN or Women’s Health
  • MD or DO from accredited medical school
  • Board-certified or active board candidate  
  • Connecticut License
  • Federal and State-controlled substance licenses
  • BLS certification
  • Current training in Electronic Fetal Monitoring
  • Eligible for hospital privileges
  • Effective communication (verbal and written), listening, and customer service skills
  • Computer skills (Microsoft office suite)

Physical Demands

  • Requires good manual dexterity and fine motor coordination, good vision, physical mobility, and flexibility.
  • Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens through direct patient contact.
  • A great deal of standing and sitting throughout the day.
  • Audiovisual acuity to perform office diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Physical ability to assist with pediatric, elderly, or incapacitated patients during the physical examination.
  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds onto the exam table.
